The Fishery Product Technology (THP) Study Programme of FIKP Unhas organized a public lecture entitled “Development of Blue Food and Marine Bioprospecting Towards Golden Indonesia.” This event presented Prof. Dr. Mala Nurilmala, S.Pi., M.Si., Vice Dean for Resources, Development, and Cooperation of FPIK IPB University, as a guest speaker, and took place at 09.00 WITA at the 2nd Floor Conference Room, FIKP Building, Unhas Tamalanrea Campus, Makassar, Friday (09/08).
This activity was officially opened by the Deputy Dean for Partnership, Research and Innovation of FIKP, Prof. Dr Ahmad Faisal, ST, M.Si. In his remarks, Prof. Ahmad Faisal expressed his gratitude for the willingness of the speakers to share knowledge with the academic community of FIKP Unhas. He also emphasized the importance of developing Blue Food and Marine Bioprospecting to support the vision of Golden Indonesia, especially considering the great potential of marine resources in Indonesia, including in South Sulawesi, where Hasanuddin University (Unhas) is located. According to him, this activity not only strengthens food security and the economy through the utilization of marine resources as a source of protein and high-value bioactive ingredients but also encourages innovation and research in fisheries.
This activity is a significant step in fostering collaboration between researchers, institutions, and industries for progress in developing quality and competitive products. The material presented serves as a powerful tool to build these crucial collaborations.
After the speech, the event continued with a presentation moderated by KPS THP, Dr Syahrul, S.Pi., M.Si. In his presentation, the speaker explained the development of Blue Food and Marine Bioprospecting from fish, shrimp, sea cucumber, and seaweed, including their use as food ingredients with various product diversifications. In addition, by-products from fisheries can be utilized in the food, pharmaceutical, and nutraceutical industries, thus creating opportunities for value-added products that contribute to food security and health.
The participants, consisting of lecturers and students, followed this activity enthusiastically and actively participated in the question-and-answer session with the speakers. The whole event went smoothly and solemnly until 11.00 WITA.
